It was an elusive problem, seeing that there was no 5 pixel padding or margin to be found anywhere throughout the WordPress theme CSS which I based my design on. Turns out, it was a line-height statement that wanted to apply itself to the link tag, cascading down from all content applied. It wasn’t a genius-moment, but more of a reminder to think outside the normal parameters when it comes to troubleshooting web code, whatever language or format it may be.
